My concept for a promotional ad for the annual Fan Expo Canada convention in Toronto. For this project, I selected an event that had no previous history of this type of annual branding promotion, allowing me more freedom with the concepts.
I decided to take it back to its roots, with the sensory images and textures of flipping through comic books. For each guest attending, their name appears on a page with a character they’ve either written, drawn, or portrayed in live action. It was particularly amusing to mess with frame rates to achieve the delayed motion blur effect with the type.
The piece was first assembled in Adobe Premiere, then again in Adobe After Effects, and the final cut with edited sound was exported back in Premiere. I set up my own macro shoot and selected the list of potential guests based on my own research and experience with the event.
